Community members and airpark users discussed the two new reports came out from the county, first from the Office of Legislative Oversight and the second from a third party consultant, Vianair. “The County Council directed the Office of Legislative Oversight (OLO) to prepare a report that describes the governance, regulatory framework, and community impacts of the Montgomery County Airpark. The Council further asked OLO to present information on the number of aircraft flying in and out of the Airpark as well as the noise and environmental effects of Airpark operations on nearby communities.”
“Vianair Inc., formerly ABCx2, LLC., was asked to provide Montgomery County with assistance in addressing these issues.
Specific tasks include: • Identifying community issues and impacts associated with Airpark operations• Identify strategies to reduce aircraft noise impacts • Developing community engagement strategies • Devising industry engagement strategies including flight schools and air traffic control • Providing general aviation consulting and subject matter expertise as needed This report provides the findings of our review of historic and current conditions as well as opportunities to address/improve the areas noted above.”
Montgomery County Council and the County Executive’s office requested a lead study from the MDE and their response begins:
“Thank you for your recent letter requesting lead monitoring equipment for the Montgomery County Airpark to assess ambient lead concentrations and the impact on surrounding neighborhood communities. In 2017, with the EPA’s approval, the Department discontinued the one remaining lead monitoring site in Maryland due to levels consistently below the analytical method’s detection limit.”
